Los Angeles Rams star wide receiver Cooper Kupp sustained a high ankle sprain during their loss to the Arizona Cardinals in November. Although he was able to avoid a severe fracture, he underwent surgery on his ankle.
He was expected to miss six to eight weeks after the procedure, but Kupp is unlikely to return this season if the Rams fail to bounce back and miraculously make it to the playoffs. The team currently holds a 3-9 record as they head into their home game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Best case scenario
If Kupp does recover by the sixth week (Dec. 28), he would be available to play their Week 17 game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Jan. 1 and the Week 18 game against the Seattle Seahawks on Jan. 8.
However, it is also highly possible that the Rams will sideline the 29-year-old for the rest of the season to enable him to rest, given how important he is to the franchise.

If the defending champions somehow manage to win the rest of their games and make it to the postseason, Kupp would have had enough time to recover for the team to activate him for the playoffs.
The Rams are on the verge of being eliminated, and The New York Times gives them a less than 1% chance of surviving the regular season.
They face the 5-7 Raiders on Thursday Night Football, and the game could see newly acquired quarterback Baker Mayfield starting for the team. Las Vegas is riding a three-win streak, while Los Angeles is coming from six consecutive losses.
