PHOENIX — The stars were out in Monday night’s battle between the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers, but not in the storybook way.
Devin Booker, LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook were all missing in action as the Suns blew past the Lakers in 130-104 fashion. Phoenix shot a strong 51.3% from downtown and reached the 130-point mark for the sixth time all season.
Deandre Ayton returned from a two-game absence in strong fashion, amassing his 14th double-double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Every Suns starter scored at least 15 points in the win. Phoenix led by as much as 26 in the victory.
Chris Paul took over early scoring duties and reached the 20-point mark for just the second time all season. His 28 points was a season-high.
Phoenix is now a half-game back from the Memphis Grizzlies for first place in the Western Conference. They’ll host Memphis at the Footprint Center on Friday.
Phoenix extended their series lead over Los Angeles to 2-0 this year and have won the last six matchups dating back to last season. This is their third three-game winning streak of the year.
They’ll see the Lakers again on Mar. 22.
Phoenix plays the second of their back-to-back against the Washington Wizards on Tuesday.
