The NFL’s leading rusher didn’t let a hand injury keep him out of Thursday night’s game.
Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs briefly left Thursday night’s 17-16 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, but returned to finish out the game.
Jacobs had 27 carries for 99 yards and a touchdown in the defeat, concluding a run of three-straight 100-plus-yard games.
Following a 15-yard run in the third quarter, Jacobs came down hard on the turf with his right hand, appearing to roll up on his pinky finger. On the sideline, Jacobs could be seen in visible discomfort as his fingers were taped and he tried to fit them into a glove. He subsequently left to the locker room, but returned to the sideline and then the game after missing one drive.
Jacobs, who had 19 carries for 73 yards and the game’s only touchdown at that point before his exit, leads the league with 1,402 yards rushing (the most by a Raiders running back through 13 games).
When he was out, Jacobs was replaced by rookie Zamir White, but his exit lasted just a series.
Entering Thursday, Jacobs was questionable for a third consecutive week with a calf injury and is now dealing with a hand ailment.
A bell-cow back in an NFL world of rushing committees, Jacobs is vital to the Raiders’ offense to say the least and though he returned to the game, his hand — along with his calf — bears monitoring.
