Incredible videos show tornadoes carving deadly path of destruction across Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas

The South continues to be battered by a severe weather outbreak that spawned several tornadoes in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana on Tuesday, and incredible videos and photos show the storms carving a deadly path of destruction across the region.

The severe weather outbreak comes as a coast-to-coast storm moves across the country and will produce more severe weather in the South, blizzard conditions in the northern Plains and eventually snow in the Northeast by Thursday.

Mother, young son killed in Louisiana

A mother and her young son were killed in Louisiana when a likely tornado moved through the Pecan Farm area of Keithville on Tuesday night, according to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Department.

At least two dozen others were injured in the community of Farmerville, Louisiana, according to local police.

Apparent tornadoes were spotted moving across other portions of Louisiana on Tuesday evening, and video from Four Forks showed debris being lofted into the air as a large tornado barreled across Richland Parish.

Other images from Louisiana showed funnel clouds or possible tornadoes moving near Shreveport in the northwestern corner of Louisiana.

Tornado sirens wail across Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex

Tornadoes were also reported across parts of North and East Texas on Tuesday during the severe weather outbreak, injuring at least five people in Grapevine.

Videos recorded in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex showed tornadoes spinning across the landscape, and tornado sirens could be heard wailing to warn residents to seek shelter from the dangerous storm.

A photo taken at Dallas Love Field Airport showed ominous clouds approaching the airport. And because of the severe weather, the Dallas-Forth Worth International Airport issued a “Shelter in Place” because a Tornado Warning had been issued in the area. 

Passengers were told to move away from windows and exterior walls and to seek shelter inside enclosed areas.

Just east of Dallas-Fort Worth in Forney, Texas, powerful winds whipped debris – even a portable toilet – down a neighborhood street.

Other images in North Texas showed possible tornadoes spinning across the area and bright flashes of lightning illuminating the early-morning sky.

Just north of Fort Worth in Decatur, one resident heard a tornado move over her home. 

“It made a big boom sound,“ she told FOX 4 Dallas. “The boom sound that I heard was the power lines. They exploded.“

In Wise County, located northwest of Fort Worth, residents said they were shocked to experience the severe weather Tuesday morning.

The Grapevine Police Department said in a Facebook post that at least five people were injured when the possible tornado tore through the community, and all victims were taken to a local hospital.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the Grapevine Police Department was working to repair a downed traffic light during the storm.

Police said Sam’s Club, Walmart and the Grapevine Mills Mall all closed on Tuesday because of the extensive building damage.

Several roads in Grapevine were also closed due to downed trees and power lines.

“Please stay off the roads right now if you are able to do so as we work to clear debris and check on everyone impacted by damage,” police said in the Facebook post.

North of Fort Worth and Dallas, in the city of Grapevine, a tornado destroyed a semi-truck.

A video taken from the same area shows drivers turning around on a highway as a tornado crossed the road.

Once the storms passed, damage assessments began as well as search and rescue operations.

Drove video taken above Grapevine showed the scope of the damage the tornado left behind. Buildings could be seen damaged, and debris is seen littering the landscape.

Homes destroyed, power knocked out in parts of Oklahoma

In Oklahoma, McClain County Emergency Management officials said the town of Wayne suffered extensive damage when a powerful EF-2 tornado tore through the region during the early-morning severe weather outbreak. This marked the strongest December tornado to strike Oklahoma since another EF-2 twister on Dec. 12, 2015.

In a Facebook post, emergency management officials said the town of Wayne was without power because of the tornado, and several structures, including homes and barns, were destroyed.

Debris, including trees and power lines, littered the landscape, and officials urged residents to stay away from the area so emergency crews could search for those who the tornado may have injured.
